What are the main SEO pricing models in India?
Most providers use one of three models, and some mix them. Each suits a different situation.
| Model | How it is charged | What it covers | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly retainer | Fixed fee each month, usually with a notice period | Ongoing technical fixes, content, local SEO, link work and reporting | Most businesses, because SEO results build over months |
| One-time audit | Single project fee | A review of technical health, indexing, content, schema, speed and priorities, delivered as a report and plan | Businesses that want a diagnosis, or have in-house help to carry out the fixes |
| Project-based SEO | Fixed fee for a defined piece of work | A site migration, URL restructure, new section build or Search Console and indexing set-up | One-off changes with a clear start and end |
| Hourly or day-rate consulting | Per hour or day | Advice and reviews, rather than delivery | Teams with developers and writers already in place |
Market ranges quoted in this guide are benchmarks for planning, not quotes. Our own prices are on the pricing page.
What is a realistic monthly budget for SEO in India?
For small and mid-sized businesses, professional monthly SEO in India typically runs from about ₹15,000 to ₹75,000 or more. Local businesses with one location and modest competition usually sit at the lower end. Companies in busy markets, with many pages or several cities, sit nearer the top. Large e-commerce stores, national brands and multi-language programmes can go well beyond that range.
SEO is also an investment with a lag. Technical fixes and local profile work can show effects within weeks, while content and authority usually take months. Budget for at least six months of work before judging results, and judge by enquiries and visibility, not by a single ranking.
If you are still choosing a provider, our guide on how to choose an SEO company gives the questions and red flags, which apply in India as much as in Dubai.
What drives the cost of SEO?
Two providers can quote very different amounts for what looks like the same job. These are the factors that explain most of the gap.
- Competition. Ranking for a quiet local service is cheaper than competing in finance, real estate or fashion e-commerce.
- Site size and condition. A site with many pages, slow templates or technical problems needs more work than a clean five-page site.
- Content volume and quality. Original, useful pages written by someone who understands your industry take real time.
- Number of locations and languages. Each city, language or branch adds pages, profiles and tracking.
- Link work. Earning credible mentions through outreach and content costs more than buying bulk links, and costs less risk.
- Reporting and strategy time. Calls, plain-language reports and planning take hours.
- Who does the work. A developer-led studio can fix technical issues directly. Where work is handed between layers, cost and delay both rise.

How much do one-time audits and project work cost?
A one-time audit is priced by site size and depth, not by a flat market rate, so ask for a quote that names what will be reviewed: crawling and indexing, speed, mobile usability, schema, content gaps, local profile and a ranked action list. A good audit ends with priorities and owners, not just a long list of warnings.
Project work, such as a site migration or restructure, is priced by effort and risk, because getting redirects and indexing wrong can damage existing rankings. If your main problem is that pages are not appearing in Google at all, a focused Google Search Console and indexing set-up priced from ₹9,000 may be the right first step, and our technical SEO service covers deeper fixes.
Some businesses pair a one-time audit with an internal developer, then move to a retainer only for ongoing content and local work. That can be a sensible, lower-cost route.
Why are very cheap SEO packages a warning sign?
Packages priced at a few thousand rupees a month, for example around ₹3,000, usually cannot pay for real work. At that price a provider has little time for audits, writing or manual outreach, so the output tends to be automated link submissions, scraped or spun text and generic reports. These can waste your money, and low-quality links can put a site at risk of Google penalties.
Watch for these patterns in any quote:
- Guaranteed first-page or number one rankings, or a promised date.
- A fixed package sent before anyone has looked at your site.
- Bulk directory submissions or hundreds of links per month.
- No access to your own Search Console, analytics or profile accounts.
- Reports that list activity but not enquiries or pages improved.
- Long contracts with no review point or exit.
How do you decide how much to spend?
Work out what a customer is worth
Estimate the average value of a new customer and how many extra enquiries you would need each month to cover the fee.
Check how competitive your market is
Search for your main services and cities. If results are dominated by large brands and portals, you will need a bigger or longer programme.
Fix the website first if needed
A slow or broken site wastes SEO spend. See how to build an SEO-friendly website and our web development service.
Start at the level your scope needs
Begin with the plan that matches your pages and locations, then move up as results justify it.
Set a review date
Agree in writing when you will review progress, usually after several months, and what you will look at.
How does SEO cost compare with the cost of a website?
A website is usually a one-off cost, while SEO is a recurring one, because search results change continuously. A common order is to build a sound site first, then add SEO. Our guide to how much a business website costs in India covers the build side, and SEO versus Google Ads compares search work with paid clicks, which stop when spend stops.

SEO cost in India: common questions
How much does SEO cost per month in India?
Professional SEO retainers for small and mid-sized businesses typically run about ₹15,000 to ₹75,000 or more per month. Our starter plan begins at ₹15,000, and complex programmes cost more.
Is ₹5,000 a month enough for SEO?
Rarely, for real work. Very low prices usually mean automated tasks or reused content. They may suit a narrow, one-off job, but not an ongoing programme with audits, writing and reporting.
How much does an SEO audit cost in India?
It depends on the size of the site and the depth of the review, so ask for a quote that lists what will be checked. A useful audit ends with a prioritised action list.
How long before SEO shows results?
Technical and local profile fixes can show effects within weeks, while content and authority usually take months. Competition and starting point decide the pace, and no honest provider can promise a date.
Is GST charged on SEO services in India?
GST generally applies to SEO services provided by registered businesses. Check whether a quote includes it, and confirm current rules with your accountant.
Is it better to pay for a retainer or a one-time audit?
Retainers suit ongoing improvement. An audit suits businesses that want a diagnosis and can carry out the fixes themselves. Many start with an audit and move to a retainer.
Do you guarantee rankings?
No. Nobody can guarantee a Google ranking. We commit to defined work, access to your own accounts and plain-language reporting, which is stated in your written quote.
