What should an SEO company actually do for you?
SEO, or search engine optimisation, is the work of making your website easier for Google to understand and more useful to the people searching. A competent provider handles four areas: technical health of the site, the content and structure of your pages, local presence if you serve a geographic area, and the earning of credible mentions from other sites.
Dubai adds its own demands. Searches come in English and Arabic, local intent is strong, and many businesses run several branches or free-zone and mainland entities. A provider should be comfortable with all of that, or say honestly where they are not.
Before comparing companies, write down what you want the work to achieve in business terms: more calls, more quote requests, more bookings. That makes every proposal easier to judge, because you can ask how each activity leads to that outcome.
What should you check before hiring? A comparison table
Use this table to score every company you speak to. The questions in the last column are fair to ask any provider, and a good one will answer them plainly.
| What to check | Good sign | Warning sign | Question to ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| Promises | Explains what influences rankings and says results are not guaranteed | Promises page one, a number one spot or a fixed date | What happens if rankings do not move? |
| Starting point | Begins with an audit of your site, search console data and competitors | Quotes a fixed package before looking at your site | What will you review before recommending anything? |
| Links | Earns mentions through useful content, local listings and genuine outreach | Sells bulk links, private networks or 'guaranteed backlinks' | Where will the links come from and can I see examples? |
| Access and ownership | Your accounts for Search Console, Analytics and the profile stay in your name | They hold the logins or run everything from their own accounts | Will I be the owner of every account and report? |
| Reporting | Plain-language monthly reports tied to calls, enquiries and pages | A screenshot of rankings for terms nobody searches | What will the report show and who explains it? |
| Who does the work | You can speak to the people writing, fixing and publishing | Sales team only, unclear who is responsible, work handed off between layers | Who will do the work day to day? |
| Technical depth | Mentions speed, indexing, schema, mobile usability and site structure | Talks only about keywords and blog posts | Can you change the site, or only advise? |
| Contract terms | Clear scope, review date and notice period in writing | Long lock-in with no exit or review | What does the contract say about stopping? |
What are the red flags when choosing an SEO company?
No one outside Google controls rankings, so any provider who says otherwise is selling certainty that does not exist. The following patterns deserve a pause, and one of them alone is not proof of bad intent.
- Guaranteed rankings or traffic. Reputable providers promise effort, process and transparency, not positions.
- A price that does not match the scope. Extremely cheap packages usually mean automated work or reused content. See how much SEO costs in Dubai for realistic bands.
- Bulk links and directories. Hundreds of low-quality links can harm a site rather than help it.
- Secret methods. If they will not explain what they are doing on your site, you cannot judge it.
- Reports about activity, not outcomes. A list of tasks completed is not the same as more enquiries.
- No questions about your business. Good SEO starts with your customers, margins and capacity to handle leads.
What does a good SEO proposal contain?
Proposals differ in style, but a useful one covers the same ground. Look for these five parts in order.
A summary of your goals and situation
It restates what you want, who your customers are, which areas and languages matter, and what the site looks like today.
Audit findings and priorities
Specific issues found, such as slow pages, missing pages for key services, indexing errors or a neglected local profile, ranked by likely impact.
A scope of work with named deliverables
What gets done each month: pages written, fixes made, listings cleaned, links pursued. Anything excluded should be stated too.
How progress is measured
Which numbers are tracked, how often you receive them, and how they connect to calls and enquiries. Search Console and analytics access should be built in.
Price, term and exit
A clear monthly or project fee, what is and is not included, and how either side can stop. Currency and tax treatment, such as 5% VAT in the UAE, should be explicit.
What is different about hiring in Dubai, the US or India?
The principles are the same everywhere, but the details change with the market.
In Dubai and the wider UAE, check for Arabic capability if Arabic speakers matter to you, familiarity with Google Maps competition, and comfort with WhatsApp as a working channel. See the local SEO guide for Dubai for what good local work involves.
In the United States, local intent varies by state and city, price-sensitivity is high, and providers should be clear about time zones and how they handle calls. In India, ask how the provider handles Hindi or regional-language search, city-level intent and GST on invoices.
Location of the provider matters less than people assume, as long as communication is quick and the work is visible. Remote studios, including ours in Udupi, regularly work for clients in other countries. What matters is whether the person answering your questions also touches the website.
Which questions should you ask on the first call?
- What would you check on my site before recommending a plan?
- Which pages and searches would you prioritise, and why?
- Who writes the content, and do you edit it for my industry?
- How do you build links, and will you share examples of the sources?
- Can you make technical changes on my site, or do you pass them to my developer?
- Which accounts will be in my name, and what will I see each month?
- What happens if results are slower than expected?
- How do you handle Arabic, multiple locations or other markets I care about?
Listen for specifics. A good answer names pages, tools and trade-offs. A poor answer repeats slogans. If you want a second opinion on a proposal, many studios, including ours, will review one for you.
How much should you expect to pay, and what about our approach?
Price tells you little by itself, but it should fit the scope. Our own SEO plans start at AED 700 per month for foundations, local visibility and reporting, with growth and authority tiers for competitive markets. Full details are on the pricing page, and the SEO services page explains what each tier covers.
We are a developer-led studio: the people who scope the work also write the code, so technical SEO fixes do not wait in a queue. Every website we build includes Google Search Console set-up. We do not guarantee rankings and will say so in your quote.
Choosing an SEO company: common questions
How do I know if an SEO company is legitimate?
Look for a written scope, clear explanations, access to your own accounts and no guaranteed rankings. A legitimate provider will explain methods, show relevant examples without hiding behind secrecy and answer awkward questions directly.
Is it a red flag if an SEO company guarantees first-page rankings?
Yes. Search results are controlled by Google and depend on competition, your site and many other factors. A provider can promise work and reporting, but not a position.
How long should I wait before judging an SEO company?
Technical fixes can show effects within weeks, but content and authority usually need several months. Agree a review point in writing, and judge progress by enquiries and visibility, not only rankings.
Should I choose a Dubai-based SEO company?
It can help for in-person meetings, but it is not required. What matters is knowledge of your market, language needs and responsiveness. Many providers work remotely across the UAE, US and India.
What reports should I receive each month?
You should see plain-language updates on what was done, search impressions and clicks from Search Console, enquiries or calls, and the plan for next month. Raw ranking lists alone are not enough.
Can I do SEO myself instead of hiring a company?
Yes, for the basics: a complete profile, clear service pages, reviews and a fast site. Hire help when competition is tough, you need technical changes, or you lack time to publish consistently.
How much do SEO companies charge in Dubai?
Fees vary widely with scope and competition. Our own starter plan begins at AED 700 per month, and the Dubai cost guide explains what typical bands include.
